Kristine Mighion, MD, MBA
Dr. Mighion has lead accreditation, quality improvement, and patient safety firms for the past 10 years. Previously, she served as Managing Director and CEO of Healthcare Consultants International (HCI), the consulting subsidiary of AAAHC. Dr. Mighion has an additional 20 years’ experience working with physician practices, surgery centers, hospitals/health systems, Universities, and medical technology companies. Prior to heading up HCI, she worked with internationally recognized consulting firms and spent time as a corporate banker. Dr. Mighion earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Princeton University, her MBA with a concentration in Finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and her MD from Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine.
Alicia Johnson, CHE, MPH
Alicia has served as an accreditation surveyor for AAAHC for over 25 years. She surveys ASCs, Medicare certified facilities, office-based surgery centers, specialty centers, imaging centers, dental practices, and primary care facilities including community health and Indian Health centers. Alicia has more than 30 years’ healthcare management experience in leadership positions overseeing operations, compliance, marketing and business functions for both independent and hospital-owned physician group practices.
Diane Lecerf, MBA
Diane has been an AAAHC surveyor for over 10 years, focusing on health plans, federal employee health benefit (FEHB) plans, ambulatory surgery centers, medical group practices, community health centers, and patient-centered medical home (PCMH). She has over 20 years of health care experience including leadership positions in health plan accreditation, compliance, quality improvement, and performance reporting. Diane has directed health plan HEDIS® and CAHPS® reporting, disease management, health outreach, and Medicaid contract compliance. She has also managed accreditation projects for several health plans in achieving accreditation from NCQA, URAC, and AAAHC, as well as giving best practice presentations for NCQA, URAC and NAHQ on a variety of quality improvement projects.
Carol Hiatt, RN, BSN, CNOR, LHRM, CASC
Carol is an AAAHC accreditation surveyor, Registered Nurse, Certified Operating Room Nurse, Licensed Healthcare Risk Manager, and Certified Surgery Center Administrator. Carol has worked in the ambulatory surgery center industry since 1990, including over 20 years’ experience as an ASC Nurse Administrator and Licensed Healthcare Risk Manager. She has deep experience providing Infection Control program evaluations and guidance for new facility development as well as compliance with Florida-specific regulatory entities such as the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) and Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). Carol is a widely sought speaker at national and state conferences, as well as educational consulting for new Director of Nursing/Nurse Administrator training programs.
Michael Peabody, MBA
Michael has been an AAAHC surveyor for over 15 years, where he also serves as a surveyor trainer and as a member of the AAAAHC Corporate Alliance Survey team. He has surveyed ambulatory surgery centers and office-based surgery centers, as well as (but not limited to) urgent care centers, dental centers, lithotripsy centers, imaging centers and radiation oncology centers. Michael has over 30 years of health care management experience, which includes serving as the Administrator of a large, multi-site ambulatory surgery center where he gained extensive experience in multi-site facility management, new facility development, and operations. He also spent 15 years in various hospital management positions, where he gained extensive experience with The Joint Commission and AAAASF accreditation entities.
Christine Gallagher, RN, BSN, CNOR
Chris has been an AAAHC accreditation surveyor for over 20 years and is a member of the AAAHC Standards and Survey Procedures Committee. She surveys ambulatory surgery and office-based surgery centers, convenient care clinics, dental practices, urgent care centers, diagnostic imaging centers and medical group practices. Her career includes over 35 years in the ambulatory surgery center arena in the development and operational management of multi-specialty ASCs ensuring quality care within regulatory guidelines. Additionally, she has opened several new ASCs in California and consulted on numerous health care projects.
Hugh Norsted, DDS
Dr. Norsted has been an AAAHC accreditation surveyor for over 30 years. He surveys dental group practices, ASCs, office-based surgery centers, community health clinics, Indian/Tribal health clinics, student health centers, and health care facilities for both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Dr. Norsted is a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dental Group Practice (AADGP), having served as President from 2001-2002 and Education Program/Committee Chair for over twenty years. He also served as a pre-clinical instructor for 8 years at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Dr. Norsted is a past partner and founder of Valley Dental Group, a AAAHC-accredited group practice in Golden Valley, MN, where he practiced for 35 years.
Richard “Rick” Ruh, CFPS, CFI
Rick conducts multiple life safety surveys for AAAHC and consults to ASCs on life safety code requirements throughout the United States. HealthCon clients benefit from Rick’s 35 years in the fire and life safety fields, and his role as fire & life safety code official in multiple states. He served as the Fire Protection Specialist Supervisor for the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office, chief building code official in North Carolina, and Marshal for Cherokee County Fire Emergency Services in Georgia, and has conducted workshops on administrative rules and regulations affecting health care occupancies. Rick is a Nationally Certified Fire Protection Specialist and Inspector by the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), and Fire Prevention Officer by the National Fire Academy in Maryland.
Jerome (Jerry) C. Short, RPH, MPH
Jerry was a surveyor for AAAHC for 16 years, focusing on primary care organizations such as community health, student health, American Indian health, Alaska Native health, and military health, as well as Patient-Centered Medical Home and Dental Home. He has consulted for 20 years with all these types of providers on accreditation and operations, with a strong demand for his experience in student health and Indian health for which he has makes presentations at national and regional conferences. Jerry is a Registered Pharmacist and served as a U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Officer as Chief Pharmacist for several Indian Health Service (IHS) hospitals. He also served as regional pharmacy consultant, Assistant IHS Clinical Research Director, and Administrator and Governing Board member in several IHS hospitals and ambulatory care facilities. Jerry also served as the IHS Program Manager for Accreditation and Certification for all IHS hospitals and ambulatory care facilities, he co-authored the 1st edition of the Indian Health Service Medical Staff Credentialing Resource Handbook and is the recipient of the Meritorious and Distinguished Service Medals, the two highest USPHS awards.
Susan has been an AAAHC Surveyor for 15 years for health plans, primary care, Patient Centered Medical Home, and ambulatory surgery centers. She is also a member of the AAAHC Standards and Survey Procedure Committee and actively participates in updating accreditation standards. Susan consults on improving operations, transforming to a Medical Home, and complying with Florida-specific regulatory entities such as the Office of Insurance Regulation(OIR) and Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). Her 25 years of operational leadership includes serving managed care health plans, AHCA licensed clinics, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), Accountable Care Organizations (ACO), ASCs and urgent care centers. Additional expertise includes quality improvement, risk management, credentialing, appeals and grievances, provider/member database maintenance, claims, and provider contract negotiations.
